Dark Life
About
Artist's Statement

I don’t want the images of my work to be limited to the scope of traditional oil paintings. I give up colors (because the color itself has emotions) and even the space. In fact, I don't care much about the form of my work, whether it's ink wash painting, prints, and even sketches or other things, nor do I care about whether it is figurative, abstract, or expressive. These are not within my consideration and concern. I chose the medium of oil painting, because other media do not have the strength and texture that I want. I seek for the relationship between language and behavior and the concept behind them; the relationship between my inner life and the outside world, and within these relationships I want to convey a spirit. At the same time, I hope that my work can convey to the audience a state of being unobtrusive and calm, and the water-like state when carrying a spirit, because the state of water is simple, restrained and powerful. In these works, the performance of soft materials in the series reflect the uncertain status hidden in the “net”. In these works, I would like to express a kind of “hardness” with softness, a detention and restriction; the conflict between protection and rebellion. In this softness, it is like the needle in cotton, it does not have the force to move the mountain, but there is a soft power that “kills with kindness”, just like Tai Chi. In the creative process, I precipitate my thoughts, meditate and make dialog with myself. Weave the physical properties of the net with hundreds of thousands of repeating, meaningless (inactionless) sharp crosses.
