Recently, the contemporary art of China has been gradually known to us. Not only traditional Chinese paintings But also various type of modern art like oil paintings and prints are frequently introduced, while paintings of naturalism are not. It is natural that we would pay attention to conventional Chinese paintings as they take a critical part of Asian art history. Experimental contemporary art also wisely known as it reflects such aesthetics in this time. However, we should be aware of naturalism, which is important in Chinese art, to appreciate the essence and genealogy of Chinese art.

It is the first time to introduce Tie Yang, representative artist of Chinese naturalism, to us in full-scale. I believe that this show would lead us to seize not only his unique art itself, also a portion of Chinese art today.

Tie Yang studied oil painting and theatrical art Beijing central institute of play. He examined soviet realism paintings as well. His work held the public eyes from his debut. He is persistent to build up his own field. Tie Yang has tripped a lot for sketch to appreciate beautiful nature of China. He could develop his own work through these trips. This experience supports him to be one of the representative artists in China.

Although Tie Yang mainly uses western material like oil paint, watercolor and Gouache, his works manifest the sense or the spirit of China. He was influenced by Expressionism and Impressionism, however he tried to accept and reproduce them in his unique landscape painting as a result of the enormous efforts on sketch.

His paintings are bright and rhythmic, implying the instinctive music of brush stroke. The dramatic tension from the color and the huge scale of nature exhibits delightful life and natural mystery.
